Time to confess.
I don’t think I’ve read any books by Ernest Hemingway, one of the great writers of the 20th Century. I’m not sure how this happened. Tomorrow is the start of a journey to rectify one of my many short-comings.
Bayu and I are off to Chiang Mai for a one week holiday. On-line research has revealed a few second hand bookshops, so hopefully I’ll find one or more of Hemingway’s titles. Is it possible for books published more than eighty years ago to still be around? I wonder.
The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls and The Old Man and the Sea are considered classics, so maybe I will find them hidden in the shelves at Backstreet Books, Gecko Used Books or Book Zone. I will at least try, knowing that I will not leave a bookstore empty handed.
So that is my Chiang Mai challenge, but the search will only be part of a much needed holiday. We plan to go rafting, do another cooking school, have massages, shop, sample Thai Food and just have a great time. Hopefully Ernest will join us on our trip. Let’s wait and see.
Have you read any of his books? Next week I will share details of my search.
